چکیده

AmpC β-lactamase enzymes confer resistance to a wide variety of β-lactam antibiotics, except carbapenems. AmpC β-lactamase-producing bacteria are known to be causative pathogens of nosocomial infections, which are difficult to be treated. Hence, this study was aimed out to determine the prevalence of AmpC β-lactamase enzyme production among Gram-negative bacteria. A total of 500 multidrug-resistant isolates were tested for cefoxitin susceptibility during a one-year period of study. All the isolates were tested for AmpC β-lactamase production by both the disk approximation and AmpC disk methods. The isolates positive for AmpC β-lactamase production were also tested for antimicrobial susceptibility by the disk diffusion method. AmpC β-lactamase production was noted in 101 (20.20%) isolates. All the isolates were 100-percent susceptible to imipenem and meropenem with variable susceptibilities to other antimicrobial agents. (J Infect Dis Antimicrob Agents 2008;25:129-33.) Detection of Metallo-Beta-lactamase Production in Rare Carbapenem-Resistant Non-fermentative Gram-Negative Bacilli Isolated in a Tertiary Care Hospital, Visakhapatnam, India

Introduction: Non-fermentative Gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB) are occasionally involved in infectious diseases pathology, but have shown resistance to multiple antibiotics and the capability to gain new resistance factors in the hospital environment. The present study was aimed to investigate the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of rare NFGNB isolated from different clinical samples and the pre...

High occurrence of blaCMY-1 AmpC lactamase producing Escherichia coli in cases of complicated urinary tract infection (UTI) from a tertiary health care centre in north India

AmpC beta lactamase producing Gram-negative bacteria have emerged worldwide. It is important to distinguish plasmid mediated AmpC β lactamases from chromosomally mediated enzymes for surveillance, epidemiology and hospital infection control as plasmid mediated genes can spread to other organisms. Occurrence of blaCMY-1 AmpC β-lactamase, a plasmid mediated cephamycinase was studied in 100 consec...

Phenotypic Identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern of AmpC beta-Lactamase Producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections from a Tertiary Care Hospital of Rawalpindi, Pakistan

Introduction: This study is aimed to compare phenotypic test methods and determine antibiotic susceptibility pattern of AmpC beta-lactamase producing uropathogenic Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in clinical isolates. Method: E. coli and K. pneumoniae were identified by standard microbiological procedures. Screening of AmpC beta-lactamase production was done by using cefoxitin disc (...

Multi-drug resistance in clinical isolates of Gram-negative bacilli in a tertiary care hospital of Assam

The widespread use of β-lactam antibiotics has lead to the development of resistance to this group of antibiotics in bacterial pathogens due to various types of β lactamase production. Amongst the mechanisms of resistance to third generation cephalosporins, production of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) and AmpC β lactamases is the most common1. Since both ESBL and AmpC β-lactamase are en...

Ampc Beta Lactamases Among Gram Negative Clinical Isolates From A Tertiary Hospital, South India

AmpC β-lactamases are cephalosporinases that hydrolyze cephamycins as well as other extended-spectrum cephalosporins and are poorly inhibited by clavulanic acid. Although reported with increasing frequency, the true rate of occurrence of AmpC β-lactamases in different organisms, including members of Enterobacteriaceae, remains unknown. The present study was designed to determine the occurrence ...
